Admission to the National Black Book Festival is $5.00 per person/per day for adults and teens and FREE for children 12 and under.  Admission may be paid at the door or in advance and tickets are nonrefundable.  Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.  For group discounts, call 1-800-340-5454.

Event Tickets
The 2010 National Black Book Festival events are open to the public; however, tickets must be purchased in advanceThe deadline for ticket purchases is June 1, 2011.  Attendance at the Festival is not required to attend one of these events (with the exception of the Spoken Word Poetry Slam).  All events will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1700 Smith St. (downtown), Houston, TX.

Participating authors should obtain their tickets by completing their author vendor agreement, since participating authors' event tickets are at a discounted price.   NOTE:  Ticket purchases are nonrefundable,unless the event is cancelled.  If an event is cancelled, monies will be refunded.

The Festival schedule includes the following events (items with asterisk [*] are ticketed events which require ticket purchase in advance):

Friday, June 10, 2011 @ 7:00 p.m.
"Welcome to Houston" Reception*
Cost:  $60.00 per person

This reception welcomes the out-of-town authors, book clubs and other Festival attendees to the City of Houston.  An appetizing buffet will be served, along with beverages and dessert, and smooth jazz entertainment will be provided by the musical duo, Twin Connection.   Attire:  Business.   Speaker will be actor and author GregAlan Williams.

Slumber Party w/Author Mary B. Morrison*
Ladies only - Must be 18 years of age
Cost:  $30.00 per person

This slumber party, hosted by author Mary B. Morrison and the National Black Book Festival, is for ladies only.  Held in a luxurious meeting room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the party will feature desserts and beverages, lingerie by Houston-based June May Lingerie, door prizes, games and readings by the authors.  Attire:  Casual.

"Get Acquainted" Breakfast*
Cost:  $40.00 per person

This breakfast affords authors and readers a networking opportunity to meet new friends and exchange ideas.  A full breakfast buffet will be served.  Book marketers will make presentations on how authors can best promote their books at the Festival.  Attire:  Casual.  Marketing presenters will be: 

  • Oswald Scott, author of The Promise: A Black Man's Guide to Money, Power and Respect, and NBBF Steering Committee Member
  • Brian W. Smith, founder of Hollygrove Publishing and "Power Seller" at 2009 and 2010 NBBF

Spoken Word Poetry Slam

Attendance at the poetry slam is FREE with a Festival admission ticket.

For the 2010 Festival, poets who enter will compete for a cash prize.  There will be 2 to 3 preliminary bouts and the finale will occur on June 12th at the Festival.  Judges score each of the performances and there will be an MC who will be the poet/host.
