Event Tickets
The 2015 National Black Book Festival special events are open to the public; however, tickets must be purchased in advanceThe deadline for ticket purchases is October 10, 2015.  Attendance at the Festival is not required to attend one of these events (with the exception of the Spoken Word Poetry Slam).  All events will be held at Fallbrook Church, 12512 Walters Rd., Houston, TX 77014.

NOTE:  Ticket purchases are nonrefundable, unless the event is cancelled.  If an event is cancelled, monies will be refunded.

The Festival schedule includes the following events (items with asterisk [*] are ticketed events which require ticket purchase in advance):

"Welcome to Houston" Reception*
Cost:  $50.00 per person

This reception welcomes the out-of-town authors, book clubs and other Festival attendees to the City of Houston.  An appetizing buffet will be served, along with beverages and dessert.  Door prizes will be awarded.  Attire:  Business casual.

Friday, October 23, 2015 @ 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
"Get Acquainted" Breakfast*
Cost:  $30.00 per person

This breakfast affords authors and readers an early opportunity to meet new friends and exchange ideas.  A full breakfast buffet will be served. Book marketers will make presentations on how authors can best promote their books at the Festival.  Attire:  Casual.  Marketing presenters will be: 

  • Oswald Scott, author of The Promise: A Black Man's Guide to Money, Power and Respect, and NBBF Steering Committee Member
  • Fon James, Professional life coach and NBBF Steering Committee Member
  • Rhonda Jackson Joseph, Author, editor and NBBF Steering Committee Member

Power Lunch
Cost: $30.00 per person

This luncheon will feature a high-profile guest speaker in the literary industry and highlight ways in which authors can increase their power in terms of audience and sales, and readers can increase their access to established and up-and-coming authors in the wake of the large number of bookstore closures across the country.

Networking Breakfast*

This breakfast is designed specifically to enhance networking opportunities on the last day of the Festival.  Specific activities will be conducted to encourage and promote networking among the attendees.  A full breakfast buffet will be served.   Attire:  Casual.

Saturday, October 24, 2015 @ 4:00 p.m.
Spoken Word Poetry Slam

Attendance at the poetry slam is FREE for observers.

For the 2015 Festival, poets who enter will compete for a cash prize.  There may be 2 to 3 preliminary bouts and the finale will occur on October 24, 2015 at the Festival.  Judges score each of the performances and there will be an MC who will be the poet/host.
